Last month, TPCH marked April No Falls with its annual April No Falls ward competition.
The competition, won by the Rehabilitation and Acute Stroke (RAS) Unit which adopted a Mexican fiesta theme, was entered by several wards who used many different and innovative ideas and activities to raise awareness of falls in hospital. Falls in hospitals is an issue affecting approximately 70 patients at TPCH every month.
Activities included patient information about falls safety, age-appropriate exercises, and education aligning with eat, walk and engage principles of care, in support of TPCH’s Get Moving, Get Better campaign which encourages all staff to consider the 4 Ps in falls prevention – Pain, Pan, Position and Possessions.
The judges were impressed with the level of engagement of clinicians, and felt that many of the wards have quality improvement ideas that should be progressed to present at the 10th Biennial Australian and New Zealand Falls Prevention Conference from 26 to 28 November 2022 at the Perth Convention Centre.
Thank you to all wards who helped raise awareness of a very important issue that affects many TPCH patients.
