TPCH’s annual Wheelchair and Maintenance program held in March was another success with over 100 wheelchairs audited in a single day.
The program which is now in its fifth year, is a combined activity between QuEST, Patient Support Services and Building Engineering Maintenance Services designed to assess the condition and safety of wheelchairs across TPCH.
Staff from QuEST and Patient Support Services bring the wheelchairs down to a designated area in the Education Centre car park for an industrial clean, minor repairs, record keeping, tagging and service history review. Wheelchairs are checked for anti-theft bars, anti-slip bars and foot protectors.
This year’s program showed that all wheelchairs audited were in either good or fair condition.
QuEST’s program coordinator Mathew Blaney said that the program provides an effective process for reviewing the quantity and quality of wheelchairs; replacement, management and storage.
“It means we can provide patients and visitors with access to wheelchairs that are operationally safe and meet infection control standards, year in and year out,” Mathew said.
