Last night we celebrated the incredible efforts of our dedicated researchers at our seventh annual Metro North Research Excellence Awards.
Research is vital in driving change in clinical practice to improve patient outcomes, and it was a difficult task to select the finalists across seven categories.
The awards attracted 71 submissions and showcases the diverse and far-reaching research projects conducted by individual researchers and teams from across all Metro North Health facilities.
A big congratulations to all of this year’s winners:

- Rising Star Award – Associate Professor Peter Lazzarini
- Research Support Award – Professor Merrilyn Banks
- Discovery and Innovation Research Award – Safer, more accurate and more comfortable radiotherapy through 3D printing – Cancer Care Services, RBWH
- Clinical Research Award – Puzzling: Probiotics and Preeclampsia
- Complex Health Challenges Research Award – Redcliffe Hospital Intensive Care Unit – excellence in interdisciplinary research to benefit patients and families
- Health Services and Implementation Research Award – Eat Walk Engage: preventing delirium and improving hospital care for older Queenslanders
- Chief Executive Award – Professor Nadine Foster
- Professor Joan Webster Nursing and Midwifery Award – Emily Larsen
Consumer Engagement Award – Implementation of the intensive Comprehensive High Dose Aphasia Treatment (CHAT) into clinical rehabilitation
