Angie Dobbrick,  Executive Director, Caboolture, Kilcoy & Woodford Clinical Directorate

The pressures that we have been facing from external sources are not to be underestimated.

I recognise that this – on top of all that you have been doing every day during a pandemic and with increased demand – is not to be taken lightly and very much recognised by myself and your leaders.

Your commitment to the high-quality care of our community is a testament to you all as professionals and healthcare workers.

Whilst I don’t want to diminish the challenging impacts, as they remain significant, I do want to talk about our strengths.

We have a unique sense of community across all campuses amongst our staff and teams at CKW.

It is a strength that sees us successfully achieve things like safe and quality delivery of COVID-19 care, respond to floods and major weather events, challenging clinical scenarios, or other personal episodes in an individual’s life.

We talk about ‘Caring Together’ across CKW and each day I see episodes of this happening.

We need to build on this and other strengths to enable us to realise our ambitions of delivering excellent healthcare in a contemporary corrections context, a rural community hospital, and a growing acute care facility.

Bennis (2014) writes about ‘crucible moments’. He notes that ‘just like alchemists in history used crucibles in the hopes of turning other elements into gold’, we too can mix the elements of learning from difficult situations to make ‘gold’, too.

We have a real opportunity to do this across CKW, and I know the value of what we will achieve will far outweigh the value of gold!

Thank you for all that you do every day.

What a compliment!

Here’s a recent compliment for our maternity and obstetrics teams:

“The team in the Special Care Nursery are absolutely amazing – we are so happy with them. The paediatrician Dr Yu was excellent and we’re so happy to have her as a part of our team.

“Heidi from the Ngamarra team was my midwife and she was excellent in every way. The maternity ward was fabulous I was very happy with everything they did.”

Finally,

It’s the last day to submit an EOI to join the CKW Staff Council. Applications must be with the Chair Scott Haworth by 5pm today (Friday 19 August).

Have a wonderful weekend!

Take Care,

Angie.
