RBWH Clinical Nurse Consultant Emma Babao

Goodbye and good luck Emma!

After spending 20 years working at RBWH, and nearly 30 years of service to Queensland Health, RBWH Clinical Nurse Consultant Emma Babao has said goodbye to her Team Royal family.

During her time at RBWH, Emma worked as a Nurse Unit Manager in the Level 4 Operating rooms and more recently as part of the Safety and Implementation Service. Some of her proudest moments include helping deliver robotic surgeries and helping coordinate 12 patient surgeries after the Ravenshoe Café explosion.

Emma has shared some of her greatest learnings and advice from her time working at RBWH:

  • It’s all about our relationships. How we connect, communicate, care for, collaborate with and support others will determine your happiness at work and in life.
  • Always take the high moral ground. Rather than blaming your situation on others, take responsibility for where you are and ask yourself:  “What could I do differently to improve my current situation?”
  • Learn to be resilient.  Show up and commit to your patients and don’t take your eyes off the end goal. Our patients are vulnerable and we are their advocates. Be there for them!
  • Always be a life-long learner. There are lessons every day.
  • Don’t be a passive recipient – be the active seeker of your own destiny!
  • Remember your wellbeing is paramount to be an effective clinician – you can’t give from an empty cup.
  • Always reflect on why you were called to your vocation.
  • Take all of the opportunities – and there will be many here – that you are offered.
  • Have fun!

Good luck in your future endeavours, Emma!
