We received some excellent news today with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announcing $750M for the new Queensland Cancer Centre.

The Queensland Cancer Centre will be a welcome addition to the Herston Health Precinct, expanding on Metro North’s existing cancer care offerings. The QCC will be the only cancer care service in Australia offering the full spectrum of cancer services in one place, including:

• Medical oncology
• Radiation oncology
• Haematology
• Cellular therapies
• Theranostics
• Surgical oncology
• Interventional oncology

It also provides education and training and research opportunities, accelerating the translation of cancer research into clinical care.

The QCC will extend Metro North’s networked approach to cancer care, supporting the whole state through access to specialist treatment, education and training and research. The centre will have 150 beds and a range of ambulatory care services.

We have been working on the QCC concept for several years as part of our MN32 vision, so it’s fantastic that we now have a funding commitment and a clear timeline. Construction is due to start in 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2028. Queensland Health will begin detailed planning and consultation in the next financial year.

The QCC further cements the Herston Health Precinct as a global centre of healthcare, knowledge and innovation.
