Generative artificial intelligence (AI) emerged this year as the most rapidly adopted technology in history. Tools like ChatGTP and Google Bard are publicly available systems that process large amounts of openly accessible data.
As October is Cyber Security Awareness Month, Queensland Health is highlighting the cyber security risks and importance of keeping yourself and Queensland Health’s networks, data and systems safe if using these tools.
When you upload information into public facing AI systems you’re disclosing that information to the world. It can then be found by someone down the track who isn’t authorised to access it. Staff who access personal and confidential information should not disclose this information into publicly developed generative AI tools.
Governments and agencies are currently trying to develop a secure environment in which to utilise this technology. However, in the meantime Queensland Health has published new resources for staff on QHEPs about the safe use of generative artificial intelligence when using AI at work and at home. I encourage you to check these out.
