Message from the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer

Adj. Prof. Alanna Geary, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer

We are seeing an increase in people presenting to our emergency departments or being admitted to our hospitals or virtual ward with influenza, COVID-19, RSV and other acute respiratory illnesses.

In practical terms, we’re asking you to do three key things:

  1. Stay home if you’re unwell, wash your hands regularly, and practice good respiratory hygiene.
  2. If you take sick leave, please put in your Smart Leave request via MyHR from home – this allows us to know how many people are off sick in close to real time.
  3. Take advantage of our free staff flu vaccination clinics (and consider getting your COVID-19 booster at a community pharmacy if it’s been at least six months since you either had COVID or your last booster).

From a community perspective, Queensland is still on a green traffic light for COVID-19.

I’d also like to thank the more than 7000 staff who have already had your flu vaccine at one of our staff clinics in the past few weeks. Keep encouraging your colleagues to do the same. This will go a long way to keeping you and our patients safer.

Kind regards,

Alanna.
