It has been a busy couple of weeks in Metro North for Nursing & Midwifery Services. I have spoken of a couple of highlights here but please know if there is anything that you would like me to talk of in a future communication please do not hesitate to reach out. Always happy to share the great things that nurses and midwives do every day.

On Monday 12 February I was lucky to attend the Launch of Water Immersion for Labour and Birth (WILB) and opening of simulated birthing suite – Queensland Maternity Education in the CSDS. I won’t provide any photos as I believe that my colleague Grant Carey-Ide is posting them, but could I just say what a wonderful opportunity to provide education for our midwives to assist them in the provision of the best possible care and the ability to ensure that women can be appropriately empowered with choice to birth how they wish. Thank you to all who contributed and thank you to our amazing midwives in MN who everyday go above and beyond to provide excellent care.

On Thursday 15 February, 52 nursing and midwifery and QUT academic leaders spent an engaging and productive morning together discussing and planning our QUT Metro North Nursing & Midwifery Academy 2024 plan.

It was a wonderful morning of ideas sharing, brainstorming, and commencing the opportunities to plan and work on the four spheres which we believe will ensure that the Academy is well placed to achieve the goals of a true academic and industry partnership.

Nursing AcademyGillian Nasato is the Director of Nursing QUT Metro North Nursing & Midwifery Academy and is leading the body of work to grow the Academy, work with nursing and midwifery leaders and academic partners to achieve outcomes and align, professional and clinical practice, research and expand our partnership to attain excellence in care. It was a great morning and a big shout out to Dr Liz Crowe who really gave us food for thought in how we view and work to maintain our professions. Thanks to all in attendance.

The photo is Distinguished Professor Patsy Yates AM – Executive Dean, Faculty of Health and Director, Centre for Healthcare Transformation, Professor Jane Phillips – Head of School and Professor for Centre for Healthcare Transformation, Gillian and me.

If you would like to know more about the academy and if you would like to join this professionally aligned and what we aim to be a preeminent partnership for Metro North in Nursing & Midwifery and QUT, then please do not hesitate to contact Gillian. This is such an exciting opportunity for Metro North & QUT and in addition we will be one of few in Australia who are really forging such a close bond with a university partner. Gillian can be contacted on Gillian.Nasato@health.qld.gov.au

I hope everyone has had a wonderful week and that the weekend is not too wet. Thank you for all you do. Stay safe

Regards,

Alanna.
