Metro North will soon open the second of our three satellite hospitals. Kallangur Satellite Hospital will begin accepting patients from 11 December.

The objective of the Satellite Hospitals is to bring care closer to home and closer to communities. As you know, the Caboolture Satellite Hospital is now open, and by the middle of next year the Bribie Island Satellite Hospital will also be open. These facilities allow us to provide even more access for patients needing specialist outpatient appointments. Each Metro North satellite hospital offers a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic which is open 7 days a year from 8.00am – 10.00pm, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Hub, and Oral Health Clinics for concession card holders.Additionally, each satellite hospital offers specialised outpatient clinics which reflect the unique needs of the local community. At Kallangur Satellite Hospital there will be a new twelve chair Kidney Dialysis Unit which the capacity to treat approximately 48 patients each week.Dialysis is a lifesaving but time-consuming therapy at the best of times, and many patients face long commutes, up to three times per week for treatment. At Kallangur Satellite Hospital they will receive the healthcare they need without the burden of travel. We will also be offering an Older Persons Assessment and Rehabilitation Service which provides a team of rehabilitation specialists and allied health services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, psychology, speech pathology and dietetics. Together these specialities will provide geriatric assessment, care planning, reconditioning and rehabilitation services to support continued independence in the community helping to ensure patients don’t just have a long life, but a high quality of that long life.We are holding a community open day next Sunday 19 November at Kallangur Satellite Hospital, Stoker Way (corner of Dohles Rocks Rd and Gallipoli Way), Kallangur. Staff are invited to come along between 10am and 1pm.
