Adj. Prof. Jane Hancock, Chief Operating Officer

Today’s heavy rainfall is likely to continue through the day and is expected to significantly ease overnight.

We are seeing some localised flash flooding, with some pockets of road closures in the Moreton Bay region.

I ask all of our community visiting and mobile team staff on the roads to ensure your pre-journey risk assessment includes severe weather and road conditions, and check in with your line managers. Monitor traffic and road closures on the Qld Traffic website.

Staff travelling to and from work today are encouraged to use the Qld Traffic website or app to plan your route and drive to the conditions:

  • drive slowly without breaking suddenly or accelerating quickly to avoid aquaplaning and skidding
  • use your air conditioner or demister to keep your windscreen clear of condensation
  • use your headlights
  • avoid unsealed roads
  • use road markings to stay in the middle of your lane
  • and always remember, if it’s flooded, forget it.

Where can I find out more?

Metro North Health has created an extranet site to keep staff across our emergency and disaster response activities. The site also includes links to useful resources including special leave provisions if needed.

Download the Bureau of Meterology alerts app on your phone and turn on the warning notifications for weather events in our region. You can also find updates from the Brisbane City Council and Moreton Bay Regional Council on their websites.

Warm regards,

Jane.
