Kristal Lowe, Chief People and Culture Officer

This week we recognise national ‘R U OK DAY?’ on Thursday September 14. This year’s theme “Here to Hear” reminds us to observe and really listen to what the people are saying, doing and feeling.  We don’t always know when someone is going through a difficult time so if you notice a change in someone you work with, something different in what they are doing or saying, trust that gut instinct and take time to ask “Are you OK?”.

Team collegiality is something we do well here at Metro North. One of the things that makes Metro North a great place to work is each other. So reaching out to those we work with and asking R U OK? particularly if they are going through a tough time will remind our colleagues that they are supported. It may even encourage some people to access help earlier.

Today I am also sharing a video of a recent interview held at our STARS Facility where Culture and Wellbeing Coordinator Allison Welch talks with R U OK? Ambassador Jo Hassan about how to check in with friends, family and colleagues. I encourage you to take some time today to watch this video which can be accessed on the Metro North R U OK? site.

R U OK? will be recognised by events across all our campuses including face to face sessions where you can learn how to feel confident asking R U OK? or join in on Here to Hear wellbeing session.  You can register to attend one of these sessions with our Staff Psychology and Wellbeing teams via TMS.   Our Wellbeing coordinators will be roaming across all sites to take photos and share the “Here to Hear” message and promote the value of checking in with each other.  If you are hosting and event or have photos from R U OK? Day, please share them via email or via the teams channel.
