Hi team!

Firstly a huge THANK YOU to everyone that in the midst of so much almost daily change in the past 12+ months, have continued to do everything they can individually, as teams and as leaders to make Metro North a truly great place to work.

I keep hearing stories literally every day from patients and Metro North employees that highlight the best we offer in terms of clinical excellence, exceptional care and magnificent personal, team and leadership contributions to making this an even better place to work.

Every person plays their part and we are either helping or hindering in everything we do or don’t do. No one of course is perfect. Our intention is not perfection but progress and if you’re looking for a place to start then please can I encourage you to revisit our Metro North Values and reflect on your own behaviours. Do they honestly help or hinder making this a great place to work and do our behaviours support the best in patient care?

We have received a lot of positive information from teams that are using our Four Way Test and Wellbeing Aspiration as conversation starters in our teams.

The most common approach is for you to start the conversation with your team using the Four Way Test and explore how you are you going individually and as a team.  On a scale of one being “opportunity for significant improvement!” to ten being you / we are the “demigods of individual and collective effectiveness!” what would your ratings be? Teams have found it useful to acknowledge and celebrate what they do well against the Four Way Test and how to preserve those great practices and then explore the challenges and decide an agreed way forward with the opportunities for improvement!

  • How well are you demonstrating kindness within your team?
  • Does our team behave in a way that is psychologically and physically safe?
  • Are people behaving in a way that helps people get better to do better?
  • Are you striking the balance between improving task and relationship?

One fun way to review the test is to review the last 20 emails you sent and received and explore how they stack up against the Four Way Test?

Just a few extra seconds when typing an email or starting a conversation can do wonders for balancing task and relationship, kindness and helping others safely. A few words of appreciation and even following up to say thanks again, being clear about your intentions, asking how they are and listening all support a great place to work and won’t cost you lots of time.

Please let us know how you go and if you’d like some support from our team to continue the conversation please reach out!

If you want a quick and easy reminder, you can get a lanyard card from our office which has the Four Way Test on one side and the Wellbeing Aspiration on the other. Just email Marnie in my office and she’ll send them out to your team.

Thanks again for everything you do to make this an even better place to work.

Thanks again for everything you to either directly or indirectly delivering the best in patient care.

Kind regards,

Bruce
