I’d like to provide an update from the Strategy, Planning, Assets, Infrastructure, and Strategic Developments.

Metro North Strategic Plan

The MN Board has now endorsed the 2022 update to the Metro North Strategic Plan 2020-2024 (2022 update). This includes minor updates to reflect our intent to harness innovation and learnings arising from the pandemic, the implementation of the Metro North Health Equity Strategy, and the intent to progress rollout of ieMR implementation (subject to funding).

Metro North IAP2 subscription

We have purchased an annual corporate membership with the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) available to all Metro North Health staff until 26 June 2023. This will be useful for staff who are undertaking co-design involving a broad range of stakeholders.

IAP2 is the peak body for community and stakeholder engagement for Australasia. The membership offers a range of resources that include free conference and symposium recordings, webinars, case studies, and further discounts to training for local and national events.

To access the corporate membership benefits, each staff member needs to have their own IAP2 profile which can be set up via this link: https://iap2a.force.com/portal/s/registration.

  1. Firstly join as a non-member and enter the affiliate code below. Once you have created a non-member profile, you’ll receive a link to set your password.
  2. If you are already an IAP2 member, use your log in and enter the affiliate code. The affiliate code is: MET-002491.

If you need assistance to join the corporate membership, please email metronorthengage@health.qld.gov.au

State Budget

Following the announcement of the State Budget 2022, Metro North has received formal communication from the Department of Health about major capital projects to be progressed under the Capacity Expansion Program (CEP).

These are:

  • Queensland Cancer Centre, to be developed at the Herston Health Campus with investment of $750M and providing an additional 91 beds.
  • The Prince Charles Hospital Expansion, with investment of $300M, delivering a new clinical services building to accommodate emergency and related services, new acute inpatient units providing an additional 93 beds, and addressing site support services.
  • Redcliffe Hospital Redevelopment, with investment of $1.06B, delivering new clinical services building, ambulatory care services building, and refurbishment of existing hospital to deliver additional capacity of 204 beds.

In addition to these announced projects, reference is made to current business cases for future consideration. This includes the RBWH Emergency expansion, and the TPCH Gastroenterology proposal. Metro North will progress these business cases to completion, for future consideration by government.

World Café workshop

On 13 July 2022, Metro North will host a workshop for Directorates and Institutes, with facilitated conversations focused on a shared understanding and alignment of priorities. The intent is to strengthen the understanding of core functions and purpose of the Institutes, including priorities for the next 12 to 18 months; develop improved collaboration pathways between Institutes and Directorates, and reduce any potential duplication of activities; and be a catalyst for deeper engagement and collaboration between Institutes and other parts of our health service.

Other infrastructure projects

This week we have confirmed commercial arrangements with Australian Unity for the new northern carpark at Herston. The carpark will be completed late 2024.

The Caboolture Hospital Redevelopment Project has received completion of the building structure for the new Clinical Services Building. Internal fit out will continue in the coming months. The building is due for completion in mid 2023.

Kind regards,

Kate
