I want to begin this message by reflecting on the success of our recent staff events. There was a tremendous effort by the organising teams involved, and the staff engagement and feedback demonstrated a collaborative and collegial spirit and created opportunity for shared learnings and improvement.
Thank you to the teams behind Harmony Day, The Staff Expo and our first ever Yarning Table, an innovative face-to-face event where community and staff collaborated to discuss ideas around Health Equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Metro North’s Chief Executive Jackie Hanson and Chief Operating Officer Jane Hancock also hosted a Listening Post event at Caboolture Hospital on Wednesday.
Everyone agreed that the opportunity demonstrated the importance of sharing ideas and suggestions. As Jane Hancock said, “Not everyone wants to talk about complaints, it’s equally a forum that provides an opportunity to share ideas.”
This approach means we are all an active part of a wider ecosystem, which ensures innovation ideas, suggestions and complaints have effective channels to be heard and listened to.
Metro North staff survey
On the theme of feedback and staff engagement, I’d like to encourage all staff to participate in the upcoming Have Your Say survey which launches on 19 May 2023.
The survey takes less than 20 minutes to complete and provides employees the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience of the workplace and suggest improvements that could be integrated to improve the way we work together.
Get ready for room service
Our exciting new food service model launches on Tuesday 18 April 2023. Michelle Suter, the Director of Dietetics and Food Services at Caboolture Hospital recently presented a pre-nursing education session on the service which places patients at the centre of their hospital food experience.
Room Service Meals on Demand (RSMOD) is an innovative and efficient model that helps to ensure patient’s nutritional needs are enhanced, and assists the hospital to address food wastage concerns.
Key take-outs:
- RSMOD will start on Tuesday 18 April 2023
- RSMOD will be the food service model for all acute wards and the Clinical Services Building
- The Emergency Department will receive sandwiches, hot meals and bulk provisions at agreed intervals during the day
- Mental Health Short Stay will order meals on demand (from the agreed mental health menu standards).
Listen to the Michelle’s presentation on RSMOD.
Kam Biman initiative
Kam Biman, which means ‘cover’ in Gubbi Gubbi, is a range of beautiful blankets available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Metro North patients who are on their Returning to Spirit (palliative care) journey.
The covers are designed to provide warmth and comfort for patients accessing palliative and end of life care in hospital. Kam Biman covers are available in two designs and families are encouraged to keep the cover as a symbolic token of their loved one after they have returned to Spirit.

Well done Loreen Kaliyati
Congratulations to Australian Masters Athletics national championship medal winner Loreen Kaliyati.
Loreen is member of the Specialist Outpatients Department, and recently won medals for events including the 100m, 200m and 400m run, discus and team medleys.
Well done, Loreen, you’re a great inspiration.
I firmly believe that looking after our physical and mental health helps to unlock our human potential, by helping to balance a busy life.
What a compliment!
Here’s a great compliment for the Caboolture Hospital paediatric emergency department team:
“The nurse and doctor that each treated my child were amazing and I did not have the need to ask questions as they answered them before I had to even needed to ask. They were very informed and explained everything very well.”
Reminder – Discharge Delay tab
The Discharge Delay tab (DDT) is now live across Metro North facilities which enables local reporting on the reasons for discharge delays.
This important update provides opportunity for:
- retrospective analysis of discharge delay data, and identification of potential patient flow pressure points regarding discharge barriers
- collection of discharge delay data from hospital-wide and individual units into one repository system.
The DDT replaces the current manual data collection process used for the quarterly census reports to Social Policy and Legislation Branch (SPLB). All clinical staff (including Allied Health, Nursing & Midwifery and Medical Officers) are required to review and/or update the DDT daily.
For further information, please contact Caboolture Nursing Informatics.
