We have two reasons to celebrate today!

It’s Administration Professionals Day today and National Day of the Midwife.

We have an amazing administation team made up of almost 200 dedicated individuals who keep our teams organised, on track and on top of everything.

Both groups play such an important part in contributing to the patient journey.

For those of you who are administrative officers and midwives, I thank you for your dedication and care that you deliver. You all play such an important role – you are all very valued.

Today, I also wanted to share a wonderful compliment we received from a local mother about the care her son received after arriving at the Caboolture Hospital Emergency Department by ambulance following a snake bite.

Luckily, tests revealed he was bitten by a non-venomous snake. However, our 12-hour protocol for this patient cohort meant he may miss a vital university science challenge the following day.

Enter the Emergency Department SMO, who ensured blood tests were completed in a timely manner and reviewed quickly by the doctor the next day so the patient could leave as soon as possible and make it to the challenge he was so keen to attend.

Apart from great medical care, our doctors also helped the patient and his mother work out the quickest route to drive to the university the next day. He also organised a Short Stay bed so the patient could be well rested and briefed the nursing team to ensure they were aware of the need for a quick exit, which all went according to plan!

The patient and his mother sent a very glowing commendation for our doctors and everyone involved in his care.

We provide kind, safe and inclusive quality care to patients every day, but it was really listening, showing compassion and prioritising the patient that really resonated with me and his family in this case.

Car parking and smoking at 124 McKean Street

Caboolture Hospital staff should not be parking in the medical hub across the road at 124 McKean Street (former childcare centre).

This facility has a limited number of spaces for patients and their carers to use only, many of whom require high levels of assistance to attend their appointment.

This instruction has been passed on Metro North staff working at this facility, as well as Lendlease staff and contractors working on the redevelopment project.

I know finding a parking spot can be incredibly difficult, but we must give priority to patients and carers.

Until the new multi-storey car park comes on-line, please park in one of the dedicated staff car parks or nearby streets.

The hospital also continues to receive complaints about staff smoking at this address, often wearing Metro North scrubs. It is also a medical facility, so smoking is banned for up to five metres from the property boundary.

Environmental Health Officers can hand on-the-spot fines to people seen smoking here. Fines also apply to people seen smoking within five metres of schools and aged care facilities, which neighbour the hospital. Read more about the legislation and enforcement.

Finally,

Earlier this week, the Minister for Health and Ambulances Services released the Queensland Government’s 10-year vision for the future of healthcare in Queensland, HealthQ32.

It will guide healthcare delivery across Queensland for the next decade and worth reading to ensure we can provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
