Angie Dobbrick, Executive Director

This week members of the CKW leadership team met to continue the important work of developing the 2023-2024 CKW Strategic Plan.

Strategic planning requires time, effort and continual reassessment and it’s important that as an organisation we give it the attention it needs.

Setting a plan with goals and target dates provides us with a road map to follow and helps CKW to have a forward-facing vision so we can achieve all of our ambitions and serve our community in the best way possible.

I wanted to provide this update because all staff should be aware of our organisational goals and how and why those goals were chosen and what you can do to help us reach them.

Strategies are not a set of abstract ideas, but grounded, co-created approaches to the way forward. You are a valued part of this process and I look forward to involving you and our consumers as our 2023-2024 Strategic Plan advances.

Staff tours

Caboolture Satellite Hospital staff tour bannerWould you like to have a look around the Caboolture Satellite Hospital before it opens to patients in early August? Here’s your chance!

On Wednesday 21 June from 11.30am, a shuttle bus will leave every 15 minutes from the Caboolture Hospital main entry (near the Common Good coffee van). The last bus will depart at 1.30pm.

A free sausage sizzle will start at 11.15am so you can grab a pre-departure snack.

Check out Smart Jobs now to see clinical and non-clinical positions currently available for
the Satellite Hospital The list will also be available on the Caboolture Hospital website
from next week.

Metro North Staff Survey extension graphicHave Your Say survey

Have you completed the Have your Say staff survey? The closing date has been extended for a further week until Friday 16 June.

The response rate for CKW staff is about 31 per cent.

Your feedback helps us understand where we’re doing well and what we need to improve to make CKW an even better place to work.

Have you had your flu vaccination this year?

It’s important to have an influenza vaccination every year. The vaccination composition is reviewed annually and changed to match the anticipated strains of influenza Australia can anticipate with be circulating during our flu season.

If you have had your influenza vaccination completed privately, the Infection Control team can record that information into the vaccination database held by Queensland Health.

Please send your vaccination record to Infection Control via the generic email CabH-InfectionControl@health.qld.gov.ua and include your name, date of birth and payroll number.

Currently, Queensland is experiencing a high number of influenza cases. Vaccination is one way to improve your protection and reduce the likelihood of contracting it. Having the vaccine not only protects you – it also protects our patients.

Staff flu vaccinations remain available from the Infection Control office (located in the Caboolture Hospital children’s ward) on Tuesdays between 2pm and 3.30pm.

Other days and times can be accommodated by contacting Infection Control to make a mutually convenient appointment.

Outpatients car park

I have received reports that Caboolture Hospital staff are parking in the outpatient carpark before 8am on weekdays, when there are many carparks available in dedicated staff car parking areas.

On several occasions recently, the car park has very few spaces by 7.45am each morning prior to most clinics starting, particularly so when it’s raining.

Staff using this car park means fewer or no spaces for patients – many of whom are palliative, elderly or pregnant.

I understand that finding a parking space can be very difficult at present. Like everyone else, I am very much looking forward to the new car park opening and many more spaces becoming available.

May I please remind you to use the designated staff parking areas only to ensure our patients and the community that we care for can access a parking space when they need it.

Staff Shoutouts

Congratulations to the CKW Staff Shout Out recipients for May 2023. Congratulations to all of you for a job well done.

  • Natasha Piamonte – Ward 4A Nurse
  • Stephen Brand – Safety and Quality Officer
  • Judith Jones and Nigel Barr – Infection Control Clinical Nurses
  • Christine Ha Thai – Riverside office
  • Ehrin Bishop, Danielle Ridely, Cathy Stead, Hayley Davies, Dougal Kenny and Kat – Maternity Team (Birth Suite).

What a compliment!

Congratulations to the specialist outpatient administration team. Their compassionate approach with a patient did not go unnoticed:

“… my daughter is severely disabled. She really did not want to attend the clinic today and gave me very bad behaviour getting her there. But the staff were fantastic, they understood and bent over backwards to help. They spoke to the doctor, got us through super-fast and then allowed Angela to sign her own discharge papers, which she and I appreciated.”

Finally,

We’ve had another date change for the CKW Staff Excellence Awards. The new date is Tuesday 11 July from 10.30am to 12pm. I’m really looking forward to coming together and celebrating our success.

Take Care,

Angie.
