Angie Dobbrick, Executive Director

I wanted to remind you of an important part of the snap accreditation process that may not have been front of mind but still needs to be ready for the 1 July deadline.

The CKW QHEPS pages support your business areas by providing up-to-date information for your ward or work area. It is the ‘source of truth’ and includes key details such as the policies and procedures that support the work you do.

Assessors may ask a staff member to access information online as part of their accreditation checks.

Similarly, the Metro North Health website is not only our consumer and stakeholder facing portal – it is an extension of our brand, and therefore our commitment to a quality process.

Every single one of us has responsibility to do this. We are the respective subject matter experts.

May I please ask all CKW leaders work with your teams to audit your pages linked to your service areas?

The audit would include tasks such as checking that links, contacts, phone numbers and references to other pages all remain relevant and up to date.

Our CKW communications team will help in this process by coordinating and collating all the identified changes and working with the Metro North Health online team based in Herston to ensure consistency.

It’s also a great time to refresh content so it reflects new projects and initiatives, such as the satellite hospitals and the clinical services building both launching soon.

Satellite Hospital update

Thank you to everyone who participated in the recent vidcast with Chief Operating Officer Jane Hancock and myself. The Caboolture Satellite Hospital becomes operational in less than 70 days, so it was a great opportunity to discuss some of the finer details relating to the commissioning.

The new Minor Injuries and Illness Clinic (MIIC) will be an important extension of the care we can provide. It will take some of the pressure from the Caboolture Hospital Emergency Department by providing a real alternative for people with illness and injuries such as simple fractures, simple infections, toothache, minor burns and minor head injuries.

I also wanted to acknowledge some of the other great services and teams being introduced to the Caboolture Satellite Hospital. These include:

  • The perinatal mental health service – an extension of the Nundah service
  • Sleep studies centre, which is great news for residents of Caboolture who previously had to drive to The Prince Charles Hospital for consultations and mask fittings.
  • The medical imaging team from The Prince Charles Hospital – welcome!
  • Oral health, which relocates from Caboolture Hospital campus to the Caboolture Satellite Hospital.
  • Older Persons Mental Health Services and Community Adult Mental Health Team, which are large and important teams relocating to purpose-built spaces at the satellite hospital.

I also wanted to acknowledge and welcome the team delivering the new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Hub. Like the MIIC, this is a new service initiative which will be offered at Caboolture, Kallangur and Bribie Island satellite hospitals.

A great step towards our goals of Health Equity for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Staff tours

Caboolture Satellite Hospital staff tour bannerWould you like to have a look around the Caboolture Satellite Hospital before it opens for patients?  Watch the video or catch the bus!

On Wednesday (21 June), from 11.30am, a shuttle bus will leave the Caboolture Hospital main entry (near The Common Good coffee van) every 15-20 minutes. The bus will also run the same frequency from the satellite hospital back to the main campus.

The last bus will depart Caboolture Hospital at 1.30pm. A free sausage sizzle will start at 11.15am so you can grab a pre-departure snack!

The new Caboolture Hospital careers page is now live.

Several Caboolture Satellite Hospital positions are live at present with new roles for the clinical services building and Bribie Island Satellite Hospital to come online as they are advertised.

What a compliment!

A great compliment for our maternity team. Well done!

“The staff were amazing! In the birth suite they were welcoming, calm, professional and took the time to explain things to us. The midwives also listened to me when I explained how I was feeling and took action based on what I said which made me feel very supported. The doctors we calm and had excellent bedside manner, explaining clearly what was going on and what steps were needed.

When in the ward, the nurses were incredible. They were so kind and caring. They answered my questions with patience and made the stay very comfortable.”

Career Expo

Thank you to all the teams who will represent Metro North Health and CKW at the St Columban’s College Explore Your Future careers event on Monday night (19 June). Representatives from CHRP and the satellite hospital program will attend.

It will be fantastic opportunity to talk with about an exciting career in health close to home.

Finally,

I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Young Women for Young Mothers service on Morayfield Road this week.

What a vitally important service to support some of our most vulnerable community members. The situations of these young women are sobering.

Through the partnership with MICAH Projects, Deb Sutherland and the team are doing remarkable work to support these young and vulnerable families to give them the best shot at a future with hope.

The visit has stuck with me this week and I keep reflecting on the responsibility we have, with our other agency and NGO partners, to work together to positively influence the social determinants of our community.

I am convinced that it is up to us to lay this foundational work so that others into the future can continue to build strengths for our community. It is certainly aspirational and I know we are up to the challenge!

Take Care,

Angie.
