Adj. Prof. Alanna Geary, Acting Executive Director

Happy Friday. The mornings are chilly but aren’t the days glorious. We are so blessed to live and work in such a beautiful part of the world.

I think we should all remember what a wonderful location we at CKW are working in. I live in Brisbane and drive here every day as I am sure many of you do or alternatively, I know many people live at the Sunshine Coast. Caboolture is nearly smack bang in the middle. What a wonderful attractant for people who want a great place to work and proximity to the beautiful beaches in Queensland and the big smoke of Brisbane.

For those that live in and around CKW this is indeed a great part of the country. So my message here is that if you have colleagues working in other facilities, send them in the direction of CKW.  We have a growing facility and they can join a great team!

Just by way of some updates for CKW and some great news stories….

Caboolture Hospital Redevelopment Project (CHRP) requires a network outage that will impact all clinical ICT systems and applications to include the Queensland Health network into the new Clinical Services Building (CSB).

At 9pm on Wednesday night (26 July), a site-wide outage of up to 10 minutes is required for the migration of networks, with a total outage of one hour expected.

This will affect all network access and functionality, including the guest wi-fi. All systems should reconnect automatically after the upgrade.

Support teams from BTS, Digital Metro North, eHealth Queensland, CHRP and vendor DXC will be on-site during the outage window for testing pre and post the change.

If you’re working on-site during this time, please revert to downtime procedures for the duration and check that systems are functioning normally after the change is complete.

A new network architecture will be implemented across the entire campus as part of the expansion of Caboolture Hospital.

Patient Boutique replenished

Eat Walk Engage Coordinator Ellen Murphy picture with patient Oswald at Caboolture Hospital patient boutiqueThe Caboolture Hospital patient boutique has been replenished, giving more patients who come to the hospital without their own clothes a more dignified experience.

The boutique, an initiative of our Eat Walk and Engage program, offers patients a variety of clothing to wear during their hospital stay as an alternative to the standard hospital gown.

Some patients who have an extended hospital stay might wear a hospital gown for a number of weeks if they don’t have their own clothes, including long-stay patients who have no family support.

Being in a hospital gown can sometimes stifle a patient’s recovery, as they associate it with being sick. Once the patient gets into some normal day clothes, they feel a lot better and more like their normal selves, including 95-year-old Oswald wearing new short, shirt and beanie, pictured with Eat Walk Engage Coordinator Ellen Murphy.

Patients are allowed to keep the clothes they receive from the boutique when they leave the hospital due to health and safety reasons.

The patient boutique was replenished thanks to The Common Good, which raised funds for this initiative during Giving Day in 2022.

Celebrating our Safer Baby Bundle success

Safer Baby Bundle initiative staff at Caboolture HospitalCaboolture Hospital has seen great success with the Safer Baby Bundle initiative.

We held a celebration recently to acknowledge the tremendous achievements made by the maternity team.

At the Stillbirth CRE Safer Baby Bundle Workshop recently, Caboolture Hospital won the Excalibur Award for best performing site for data collection, audits and surveys.

The Caboolture team also won the highest award ‘The Buzz Lightyear Award’ for best overall achievements in implementing the Safer Baby Bundle and service improvement in the Antenatal space.

Well done, everyone!

Caboolture Satellite Hospital Community Open Day graphicCaboolture Satellite Hospital update

It is exciting to reach final milestones with the Caboolture Satellite Hospital Community Open Day on Monday 31 July.

The Open Day will honour the contributions of the many teams involved, whose responsible stewardship has helped to deliver Queensland Health’s first satellite hospital.

Importantly, this celebration will provide the opportunity to respectfully acknowledge our stakeholders and our community, whose voice and needs have helped to shape this important community service.

As the commissioning process and scenario testing reach conclusion, it’s great to see new members join the team.
These include:

What a compliment!

Patient Helen Leach wrote a great Google review recently for Caboolture Hospital medical intern Dr Tim McErlane:

“I attended Caboolture ED early morning on 20 June. I would like to make comment on my treatment by all the staff, but particularly intern Dr Tim McErlane.

“I was seen within 20 minutes and went to various scans during the morning. The staff were very good at keeping things going smoothly. There were various people arriving via ambulance and quite a few children with parents in tow. The ED beds were full and there were quite a lot of them.

“In my case, it was urgent. I had to give up a bed several times, to make way for new patients coming in. At all times Dr Tim kept me informed. I was able to sit in a chair, so was ok.

“… All the staff were excellent and did their best with what they have to work with.

“…. Thank you to ALL the hard-working staff at Caboolture Hospital ED, you are ok by me.”

Finally,

DonateLife Week 2023 starts on Sunday (23 July).

This year’s theme is Donate a minute. Donate a lifetime. Do you have a minute to spare? By donating one minute of your time, you could be giving someone else a lifetime.

During Donate Life Week, speak with your colleagues, family and friends about registering to become an organ and tissue donor, and to talk to their families and friends about it.

We know 80 per cent of Australians aged 16+ support organ and tissue donation – yet only seven million people are registered.

Register through MyGov or online.

Have a great weekend everyone. If you are working or not, I do hope you get to spend some well-deserved downtime with family and/or friends. Make sure you also spend some time on you.

Remember, YOU is important!

Kind regards,

Alanna.
