Today, we celebrate International Doctors’ Day.
This special occasion honours the medical profession. It recognises and thanks doctors who care for our community with compassion and kindness.
The observance of Doctors’ Day dates back to 1933. It celebrates the anniversary of the first administration of anaesthesia by Dr Crawford Long in Georgia, USA, in 1842.
Dr Long used ether to anaesthetise a patient to surgically remove a tumour from their neck.
Today, CKW has about 275 medical officers who deliver kind and compassionate care to patients and their families.
Our medical colleagues are a passionate and dedicated group who contribute greatly to the healthcare demands of our community. Thank you for all that you do.
At Caboolture Hospital today, our Medical Education Unit (MEU) held a trivia contest with Nurse Educator and Master of Ceremonies, Colin King, donning his gold jacket to ask 36 medical and general knowledge questions.
There were a lot of laughs and fun competition as everyone answered on their mobile phone. The winner was our University of Queensland medical students.
Very well done to everyone – it was a lot of fun!
To our doctors, thank you for all the important work that you do today and every day.
Karlene.
