Karlene Willcocks, Executive Director

Just before 9am today, the new clinical services building at Caboolture Hospital lost power for about 20 minutes. We called a Code Yellow at the time and that remain in place at present.

Investigations by several teams this morning have identified a circuit breaker to be replaced as soon as possible to avoid further unexpected outages.

The CKW Incident Management Team has been meeting regularly throughout the morning and has agreed on a plan to replace this part as soon as possible.

This replacement is planned for approximately 2pm today (Monday 22 April). While the repair is underway, non-essential power will be cut to the clinical services building.

This work may take up to 30 minutes to complete.

This planned downtime may need to be delayed if we have emergent patient needs to manage.

Note this will mean lights, air-conditioning, desk phones and computers will not operate during this period. However, swipe card access
to open doors and move around the building will continue.

We will make an announcement over the public address system 10 minutes prior to repairs commencing.

In preparation of this work occurring, I strongly encourage you to:

  • Call 666 for MET calls on DECT phones. Nurse call buttons will not operate during this period.
  • Lifts will not operate. Please use the stairs if you need to move between floors.
  • Prioritise patients discharges to the Transit Lounge asap prior to the electricity switch
  • Portable suction will be available to clinical areas in the CSB
  • Speak with family and friends who may wish to depart before the power shutdown
  • Ensure battery devices such as Workstations on Wheels are charged and ready
  • Plug in essential items only to Universal Power Supply points (blue power points)
  • Please power down PCs and other electrical items that are not necessary before 2pm

Please encourage patients to make food service orders as soon as possible.

Food Services can continue to deliver orders until just before 2pm. Let patients know that orders placed closer to 2pm may unfortunately be delayed until the power can be restored.

Security, operational staff, volunteers and other staff will be placed at entry points, lifts, stairs and other locations to assist people during the outage period.

The Common Good café will also be closed during this time.

These urgent works are necessary to ensure the ongoing safety of patients, staff and visitors.

Thank you for your cooperation during this time.

Karlene.
