There is plenty to update you about following a week filled with changes and some great celebrations and announcements.

Volunteers return

On May 30 we saw our volunteers officially return to Community and Oral Health after a lengthy time away this year as a result of our COVID-19 response.

In addition, we have welcomed a new volunteer at the Halwyn Centre, and am sure that all of our residents will be happy about that.

Michael (pictured above with Halwyn staff) started as a COH volunteer at Halwyn Centre on Monday, June 6.

Coming ‘together’ for the Reconciliation Shield

Friday, we saw a fun and entertaining afternoon where many staff, Elders and community members came together to celebrate and acknowledge the importance of National Reconciliation Week.

The event provided an opportunity to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, but importantly bring many of us together.

Aunty Brenda paid tribute to Eddie Mabo and his legacy in campaigning for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land rights in Australia and driving the equity conversation as we move forward ‘together’.

During this celebration, we saw the battle for the Community and Reconciliation Shield resume, with the fabulous ‘Going for Cheap’ team taking out the 2022 title against more than a dozen team contenders.

Peer Responders bring support

Last week, our COH Peer Responders were officially welcomed as part of a launch by Mark Butterworth and the Metro North Health Values in Action team.

COH now has 30 local Peer Responders who have volunteered to support their colleagues in difficult times.

If you are still interested in being a Peer Responder please contact Erika Hudson – COH Peer Responder Coordinator.

The Hill has been named

We had some great suggestions submitted by our staff for the newly landscaped visitor and staff hill beside Brighton Health Campus.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to name the hill, with special mentions to names suggested like “Blueberry Hill”, “Benny Hill” and “Seaclusion Hill”.

After a lengthy adjuducator tussle we came up with a winner.

‘Warra View’ meaning ‘Open sheet of water.’

Congratulations to the Men’s Shed for providing such a thoughtful name.

Visiting hours for bedded services

During last Friday’s COH Incident Management Team meeting it was decided that we would return the COH visiting hours for bedded services to 11.00 am – 8.00 pm from Monday June 13.

These hours apply to Zillmere Residential Transition Care, Interim Care, Rehabilitation Unit, Brighton Brain Injury Service and the Halwyn Centre.

Outside of these hours, please contact the unit or ward to arrange.
