Message from the Acting ED Community and Oral Health

2022-07-01T12:08:39+10:001 July 2022|Facility Messages, Community & Oral Health Directorate|

Thank you for your support as I acted in the Executive Director role over the past week. You will be pleased to know that Glynis Shultz will be back on Monday after a refreshing break.

Great news – Gannet House Accreditation

The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission have completed their reaccreditation assessment of Gannet House, and they passed with flying colours – with no recommendations required.

The assessment team were very complimentary in their summation, articulating that it was clear that governance processes were well embedded.

Consumers expressed to the assessors that they felt respected and loved by the staff. They found Gannet House to be a clean, safe, well-maintained environment and were impressed with the Infection Control processes with no COVID-19 outbreak in Gannet House.

Well done to Belinda Sawtell and all of the Gannet House team who have maintained accreditation readiness and ensured this wonderful outcome.

Oral Health update

A big thank you to the CLAS team who have been able to issue a very large number of appointments and treatment vouchers this week in order to ensure our patients are provided with timely and appropriate care. Well done team!

Additional movements

There will be a couple of staff movements with Dr Craig Margetts acting in the COH Director of Medical Services for the next two weeks.

Michelle Stute has extended her leave and Dane Robinson will continue to backfill in her position.

Our Acting Director of Allied Health Ansuyah Padayachee is on leave until the 18 July and Katherine Schultz will be covering during this period.

Places still available – Compassionate Lab presented by Mary Freer

I encourage as many staff as possible, especially our team leaders, clinical leads, managers and those interested, to nominate for a place in the Compassionate Lab workshop which will be presented by Mary Freer.

This workshop, is part of our directorates’ response to the BPA survey results and our obligations in relation to the Values in Action initiative.

We all know that the environment we work in can be complex and high stress. Compassion is not an emotion. Compassion is a state of mind that allows us to notice the distress in ourselves and others and to step forward with genuine understanding and a determination to do something about it.

When compassion is at the heart of what we do and where we work, we have the opportunity to be the most vibrant version of ourselves so together, we flourish and have a positive impact.

Please take the time to nominate for this important workshop.

Workshop details:

  • Monday 18 July 2022
  • 8.00 am to 4.30 pm
  • University Sunshine Coast, Petrie

Reminder – EOI – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community of Practice

We are seeking expressions of interest for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community of Practice (CoP) for Community and Oral Health.

I encourage as many staff as possible to express their interest and promote this among your colleagues and communities via the EOI FORM.

Applications for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander CoP will close Friday 22nd July 2022.  Further information in relation to the CoP is also attached for your review and consideration.

A couple of other matters

As we move into a new financial year it is important that we continue to focus on our mandatories, especially Occupational Violence training and our staff PDPs and their upcoming reviews.

And finally, as a priority, if you haven’t done so, please upload your vaccine record / booster onto the QLD Health – COVID Vaccination Register.

Thanks again for your support and collegiality, and for those of you lucky enough to be off this weekend, have a lovely (and likely wet!) weekend. Stay safe.

Kind regards,

Mario de Silva
