The month of May has provided us with an opportunity to celebrate our incredible administrative staff, midwives and nurses.

May also marks Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month in Queensland.  Regrettably, domestic and family violence touches individuals and families including the people we may work beside as well as the people in our care.

Community and Oral Health has always taken the subject of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention very seriously and we have a team of staff looking at ways we can raise awareness, upskill our workforce and prevent workplace, family and domestic violence from happening.

During the month of May, we will be holding a series of lunchbox sessions that all staff are welcome and encouraged to attend. The details follow:

Aspley Community Health Centre

In addition, thank you to everyone who dropped off their unused phones as part of the Domestic Violence Drop Box at the Brighton Wellness Hub.

The phones that were received are being put to great use by many community members!

International Nurses Day

While there will be a message coming out from the Director of Nursing tomorrow, I would like to personally thank our wonderful nurses across Community and Oral Health.

We have faced many challenging years and as a profession I always know that I can count on you.

Our nurses are an inspiration and I hope everyone has a great International Nurses Day tomorrow.

Peer Assessment Reviews

We each play a role every day in ensuring that the people in our care receive safe, quality services.

Recently, there has been additional effort as we prepare for the Peer Assessment Reviews next week and for accreditation against the National Standards.

I want to thank the Safety and Quality team for their guidance and each of you for your response.

As residential aged care facilities, Cooinda and Gannet are always ready to be assessed without notice by the Aged Care Safety and Quality Commission.

On 5 May 2023, regulatory officials of the Commission conducted an assessment without prior notice to observe infection control defences at Gannet House to prevent transmission and to recognise and respond to symptoms of COVID-19.

I am extremely proud to announce that no issues were identified.
