I want to thank everyone who has supported me while I have been acting in the role of Executive Director. It has a been an enjoyable experience and am looking forward to Glynis being back in the chair on Monday.

For my final message I wanted to highlight a few things happening across Community and Oral Health (COH).

Peer Review improvements

The message from the initial findings from our peer assessment last week was positive, including many highlighted improvements from our last assessment in May 2023.

It was very heartwarming to hear the complimentary comments about the great work that they see in the clinical areas across all areas of COH.

The team found our staff very welcoming, excited and willing to participate in the process and share the great work we have been doing over the past year.

While we wait for the the final report, relevant governance committees will commence progressing the opportunities for improvement that were identified.

A big thank you to everyone involved in the review, and for demonstrating how our patients and clients in COH are receiving safe, quality care.

Nursing acknowledgements

Following on from our Chief Nurse and Midwifery Office Alanna Geary’s message last week announcing the winners of Metro North Nursing and Midwifery Awards, I want to express my personal congratulations to our staff.

We have a team of amazing nurses across our directorate, and the success of our four award recipients reflects and aligns with the high-quality care we deliver.

Congratulations to the finalists and winners from COH in the Metro North Nursing and Midwifery Awards for 2024.

North Lakes Shining Stars! Kiron ShuklaNOMINATIONS OPEN – North Lakes Shining Stars!

Our next Shining Star Award will be focused on North Lakes Health Precinct alongside an executive visit on Monday 3 June.

We encourage all North Lakes staff to nominate a colleague for the Shining Star Award by sending a 50-100 word submission to COH-Communications@health.qld.gov.au

Nominations close Thursday 30 May.

Winners will be announced at a morning tea on Monday 3 June, North Lakes Staff Lunch Room, 10.00 am

Have you completed your ieMR training?

IeMR Instructor-led trainingWith our ieMR go-live commencing in just over four weeks, ensuring that staff working at services going live have completed their mandatory ieMR training is a priority. Everyone requiring ieMR training will need to complete training prior to when the service goes live.

Staff required to attend instructor-led training will be booked in for your session/s by your line manager. Training session dates and times are published on the Community Services instructor-led ieMR training calendar.

Compliment – Community Palliative Care

“I wish to express my sincerest gratitude to Anja and Steven for the way they engaged with my parents and myself (their daughter). Anja was deeply respectful, compassionate and empathic; and her knowledge and skillset were highly evident throughout the assessment.

“Walking into my Dad’s bedroom and seeing him at home for the first time since his hospital discharge was somewhat confronting. I immediately felt at ease in Anja’s presence as I watched and listened to her engage with my parents and the nurse who also happened to be there tending to my Dad.

“She was at ease and comfortable, while being incredibly present, attentive, attuned and responsive. Her interpersonal and communications skills were wonderful – so much patience; checking for understanding and holding genuine space for questions; frequently clarifying and summarising to ensure shared understanding; and providing clear answers.

“The engagement with Anja and Steven put my parents and I at ease; and Anja’s answering of questions was one of the most helpful conversations I’ve had with anyone involved in Dad’s care.”

A final shout out

93-year-old Joan and the Queensland Ambulance Service’s (QAS) Falls Co-Response crew.The Moreton Daily recently ran a story about 93-year-old Joan and the Queensland Ambulance Service’s (QAS) Falls Co-Response crew.

The QAS Falls Co-Response Program has been highly successful since its beginning in October 2023, helping older people who have injured themselves stay at home for longer.

Bongaree resident Joan says the support she received from the crew was outstanding.

“I found myself sitting on the floor when my chair suddenly broke,” she says.

“It was lucky my Anglicare care support worker was coming in at the time.

“She called the ambulance straight away and the Falls Co-Response crew came in, talked to me, and assessed the situation as I wasn’t in any pain.”
