Message from the Executive Director

Dr Kathryn Turner Executive Director Metro North Mental Health

Dr Kathryn Turner, Executive Director, Metro North Mental Health

This Bulletin once again features some of the important work that has been happening across the Directorate. It also highlights some important upcoming events, particularly as we head into Mental Health Week next week.

I hope some of you managed to view Professor Sidney Dekker’s Grand Rounds last week. Sidney kindly linked in from Europe for this, to support our service and also the broader Restorative Approaches Community of Practice that we have developed. He is always an entertaining and thought-provoking speaker, and he didn’t disappoint last week.

He reinforced the importance of changing our thinking around Safety, to embrace more Safety II approaches, and building a Safety culture. This aligns well with the work we have been doing to implement Restorative Just and Learning Culture responses to clinical incidents in Metro North Mental Health. We have received great input into this from across the service and look forward to finalising the guidelines and promoting that soon. We welcome anyone who is interested in Restorative Approaches in Healthcare to join our Community of Practice. Feel free to send me an email if you’d like to join.

We are also looking forward to establishing some regular forums where we can keep everyone updated on what’s happening across the Directorate. The first two are scheduled for:

27 October 2022
11.00am – 12.00 noon

23 November 2022
11.00am – 12.00 noon

We will send more details out soon and hope you can join us for them.

Kathryn
