Update from Executive Director

Dr Kathryn Turner Executive Director Metro North Mental Health

What a way to finish the year!

For my final newsletter update for 2021 I would like to talk about several very important things. Firstly, the recently announced parliamentary inquiry into mental health and, secondly, staff achievements in the recent Metro North Health Staff Excellence Awards. Read about these further on in the newsletter. The third important thing I would like to talk about is taking care, resting, and continuing to provide the quality healthcare we do. With the borders now open, we have entered the new phase of COVID-19 management, moving from elimination to suppression. As a highly vaccinated community, we are bracing for the expected positive cases and waiting to test how effective vaccination is at keeping the majority safe from severe illness.

At this time many of you may be reuniting with family and friends who have not been able to enter Queensland for some time. Many of you will be taking a well-deserved break over the Christmas and New Year period. Then, of course, many of you will be working to provide essential health care and support services.

On behalf of the Executive Team for Metro North Mental Health, I would like to thank you all for your hard work, commitment, and resilience throughout the year. Enjoy the festive season, take a break when you can, and stay safe and healthy.
