I’d like to start with a huge thank you to everyone who participated in the RBWH Foundation Giving Day activities. The hospital came to life on Wednesday 15 June, with staff from all areas getting involved in fitness challenges, bake sales, and even some dancing on live television.
Thank you to the amazing efforts of teams across the hospital, hundreds of donors and our generous staff who volunteered their time in the phone rooms. This has resulted in the RBWH Foundation raising more than half a million dollars. This money will go directly back to our hospital via the RBWH Foundation Grant Rounds to help improve patient care. I look forward to seeing how the money raised helps make RBWH an even better place.
Recently, I was proud to help launch RBWH’s very first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The plan will guide us on our path to reconciliation and closing the gap with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, staff and community. Read on to find out more about the plan.
In this issue of News at the Royal, we find out how the RBWH Anaesthetic team is saving CO2 emissions equivalent to 145 petrol-powered cars driven for one year! We hear from the Metro North team about their new Staff Shout Out initiative, where you can give a shout out to your colleagues who continually embody Metro North’s values.
We also speak to one of the chefs behind the delicious meals at Café Royale, and find out the important reason behind why many of our staff were wearing colourful socks on Friday 4 June.
Have a great month.
Kind regards,
Gillian Nasato
