Louise Oriti, Executive Director

I continue to meet the managers and leaders of specialised services such as the NeoRESQ team. I am always struck by the complexities these services manage and the many ways they innovate with their resources. Each of these services demonstrate a strong commitment to the patients and clients they serve.

Thank you Gillian Nasato

I would like to formally acknowledge and thank Gillian Nasato, who has accepted an opportunity within the Department of Health and will not be returning to her role as Deputy Executive Director at RBWH. Gillian has dedicated 38 years of her career to Metro North and RBWH, most recently leading RBWH through COVID-19, the 2022 floods, and the RBWH26 Business Care for Change in her role as Acting Executive Director. Her expertise and commitment to our patients and staff made her an integral and highly respected member of Team Royal. Gillian will be missed and I wish her the best of luck in her future endeavours.

Short Notice Accreditation preparation

Over the next few weeks, you will see the RBWH Safety and Quality Officers and Safety and Implementation Service staff around the hospital and in your clinical areas to support you with preparing for Short Notice Assessment. They will be talking to staff and patients and checking that your consumer information is up to date, visible, and accessible to patients and families. The team is attending clinical handovers and ward rounds to gain an understanding of how they run in your work area and to provide practical feedback for improvement. They will also be looking at your environment and may be able to offer suggestions to ensure we provide kind, inclusive, and quality care every day.

Have your say

The Metro North Have Your Say survey opens for all staff from today, Friday 19 May. The survey provides an opportunity for all Metro North employees to provide feedback on their experience in the workplace and allows us to address areas for improvement and celebrate the wins. Please note that although the survey will ask you to provide your payroll ID when you log in, this is only to ensure we know how many individual employees have participated. This information is removed by the third-party survey provider BPA Analytics before any results are shared with Metro North, so the survey is completely anonymous. The results will allow us to gain a greater understanding of the workplace culture at RBWH by drilling down into individual team results. Our results from this year will be compared with the results from the previous two surveys to see how we’re tracking over time. Please ensure you harness this opportunity to help make RBWH a better place to work. Keep an eye out for further details in your inbox.

Health Equity

Health Equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is a priority for all of us. This week, many of the Executive leaders attended an excellent workshop led by Health Equity Program Manager Layla Scott and RBWH Cultural Capability Officer Geoffrey Binge. The goal was to gain an understanding of health equity and evolve our plans. Each of us can contribute to making Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people feel safer and more welcome in our organisation.

Working closely with the RBWH Cultural Capability Officer, we are also finalising plans for Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). This is a very important week for us to commemorate as we continue our journey toward health equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and explore how we, as a hospital and as individuals, can contribute to achieving shared reconciliation in Australia. We will be releasing details of our plans soon and encourage all staff to get involved in marking this significant week.
