Thank you to everyone who received their free flu vaccination and played their part in protecting themselves, each other, and our patients this winter.

We began our staff flu vaccination campaign back in April. Since then, more than 1,500 staff have rolled up their sleeves to be vaccinated against the flu. I’m pleased to say that I was one of the 500 staff vaccinated on our campaign’s first day.

As part of the campaign, our pharmacy team offered flu vaccination appointments five days a week, and our Infection Prevention team provided 24 mobile and popup clinics across the hospital.  Both teams have done a great job this year in making it as easy as possible for staff to access vaccinations.

From next week, staff needing a flu vaccination will need to make an appointment at Infection Prevention’s regular vaccination clinic by calling 7546.

Thank you Cathy Fritz

While talking about Infection Prevention, today we say thank you and farewell to Cathy Fritz, our Infection Prevention CNC. After a 40-year career in nursing, Cathy is embarking on extended leave prior to her retirement.

All of us at Redcliffe Hospital have benefited from Cathy’s expertise, knowledge, and pragmatism during our COVID-19 response. Her work has had a real impact in helping keep our patients and staff safe.

We wish Cathy happiness in her retirement and thank her for everything she has done for our patients and our hospital.

#IamRedcliffe Team of the Month

At our Staff Forum on Thursday, we announced the #IamRedcliffe Team of the Month winner for June. Congratulations to this month’s award recipient, the Medical Workforce Unit.

Medical Workforce received this month’s award for the way they’ve responded to the challenges of the past year, re-allocated junior doctors as needed, and navigated the complexities of overseas recruitment of new medical officers.

Medical Workforce was one of seven nominees for the award this month, including: Oncology Nursing Staff, Transit Lounge, 6 West, Emergency Department Administration Officers, the Palliative Care Unit, and the Theatre Elective Booking Team.

Nominations are now open for July’s #IamRedcliffe Team of the Month award.

REDDY Fun Run

In my last message, I congratulated the REDDY Fun Run winners, but a couple of people were missing from that list. My apologies and congratulations again to all of the event winners:

  • Dr Anthony Houston and Naylya Kurmykova (21km event);
  • Oliver Haug and Kimberley Woodcock (10 km event), and
  • Jacob Reed and Stephanie Clark (5km event).

Lastly this week, NAIDOC Week starts this Sunday and the theme this year is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! One of the ways Metro North Health is marking NAIDOC Week this year is with a virtual event to celebrate and connect with Elders and community. Find out more on the Better Together Health Van page. We respect diversity and difference, such as language, traditions and beliefs when delivering services and care. #IamRedcliffe.
