Once again, we’ve adapted quickly and without fuss to the latest COVID-related changes. The changes that began this morning can best be described as business as usual, with masks.

Thank you to everyone who joined our staff forums yesterday afternoon and again this morning. I know a lot of staff also joined the Metro North VIDCAST at lunchtime today as well. Please talk to your line manager if you have any questions about what’s changed or what mask you should wear.

Remembrance Day Service

This morning we marked Remembrance Day with a poignant service led by volunteer chaplain Ian Fraser OAM and our Acting DMS, Air Commodore Amanda Dines OAM. As part of our Health Equity agenda, this year’s service also featured our Cultural Capability Officer, Elwyn Henaway.

We began holding these services at the hospital five years ago, and each year it’s grown in attendance and significance to our hospital community. It was wonderful to see so many staff, visitors, and patients attend today.

We are proud to have many within our hospital community who have (and continue) to serve in our defence forces. We’re grateful to them all and those before them for their service and sacrifice.

Wish List Grants

On Monday, we launched this year’s round of Raise it for Redcliffe Wish List Grants. These grants offer hospital wards and work areas funding of up to $10,000 for projects that will make things easier or better for our patients and hospital staff.

Last year’s grants funded things like a paediatric distraction trolley for the Emergency Department, REDDY Fun & Fitness activities, and a new blanket warmer in MAU.

Wish List Grants are made possible thanks to Redcliffe Hospital Giving Day and other activities of Raise it for Redcliffe, the philanthropic partnership between Redcliffe Hospital and the RBWH Foundation.

Learn more about these grants and how to apply.

The Zen Den

The first stage of the Zen Den is now open, thanks to some wonderful work by Dr Seema Saddi, Rhonda Neal, and the Wellness Working Group. The Zen Den is the hospital’s newest wellness space, located outside Zouki Café and decorated with a wellness-themed palette and water feature. Thanks again to everyone who came along on Wednesday morning to share the cupcakes and help paint the rock art.

New Reconciliation Action Plan signs

Another new addition to the hospital this week is a series of signs across the campus supporting our Reconciliation Action Plan and highlighting our commitment to Health Equity. The largest of these signs is next to the hospital’s main entrance, presenting our Reconciliation Action Plan. Other signs feature our RAP Working Group members and our Indigenous Health Liaison team.

On a personal note from me

This week I had a good catch-up and chat with Kaleigh Leggett. She’s well and wants everyone to know that she’s off on a secondment with Queensland Health in the City in a role that will support surgery across the State. Please join me in wishing Kaleigh well for her secondment, and we all look forward to her being back with us again soon.
