Louise O’Riordan, A/Executive Director, Redcliffe Hospital

We’ve got some staff changes to talk about this week.

Elwyn Henaway with Mellissa Malley, Acting Cultural Capability OfficerI’m pleased to announce that, following an EOI process, Arlene Wagner will be the new Director of Ambulatory Care for the next six months.  We thank Jared Grayling for his time in that position.

We’re welcoming Mellissa Malley as our Acting Cultural Capability Officer for a while, with Elwyn taking some time away from the hospital. As much as we’ll miss Elwyn, the change is an exciting opportunity to have another perspective to help guide us on our health equity journey.

A couple of weeks ago, we shared that our DMS, Dr Kellie Wren, will return to the Gold Coast. I hope to share some news about a temporary replacement soon while we progress with the permanent recruitment for that position.

Close to $6,000 was donated to Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital at the Dolphins’ home game at Kayo Stadium a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to all those who volunteered their time at the game.

Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital needs more volunteers for the next home game on Thursday, 25 May. If you’d like to get involved, talk to Sharyn.

Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital is our philanthropic partnership with the RBWH Foundation.

People and Culture Forum Redcliffe shareablePeople and Culture Forums

Our monthly People and Culture Forums are for everyone – but especially important for our managers and supervisors.

Amanda Brimson and the People and Culture team have arranged the April session to focus on staff wellbeing. Receive an invitation to that session.

All previous People and Culture forums are available on QHEPS.

Making your clinical work count

We heard more this week from our Health Information Services team on making our clinical work count.
HIS Director, Michelle Cope, presented to our Managers Forum, with lots of interest from NUMs and clinical leaders about how they can better capture and record clinical activity.

The HIS team is also sharing a tip of the week, highlighting how we can make our clinical work count.

This week’s tip is:

Principal Diagnosis – avoid documenting a symptom when there is a more specific or probable diagnosis.

To find out more, talk to Gemma Van Fleet on 3883 7295.

COVID precautions

Earlier this week, a memo went out reminding everyone of our COVID precautions. The memo was in response to a rise in COVID infections in our medical wards and within the clinical workforce. This has happened before, and it’s all part of our business as usual.

It is though important that all staff know about the precautions that we strongly recommend staff take when they’re at work. Those precautions include:

  • staff wearing a flat surgical mask (or N95) in clinical areas
  • good handwashing and hand-hygiene practices
  • physical distancing – especially in tea rooms and break areas
  • staying home if you are unwell.

Masks continue to be available to all staff in all parts of the hospital. If you need a supply of RAT kits, talk to your line manager.

It’s also a timely reminder that everyone’s P2/N95 fit test needs to be renewed every 12 months. If your fit test recertification is due, make an appointment to renew.

We do better work when we care for ourselves and each other #IamRedcliffe.

Louise.
