NAIDOC Week 2023 activity at Redcliffe Hospital

Redcliffe NAIDOC Week event, 6 July 2023

Today is the second last day of National NAIDOC Week, and I’ve enjoyed celebrating with the Redcliffe Hospital community.

NAIDOC Week is an important opportunity for all Australians to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living culture on earth.

As healthcare professionals, expanding our knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture is vital as we progress on our journey to health equity.

The theme of this year is ‘For our elders’, who paved the pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, taught them knowledge and history and passed down art, stories and wisdom.

Our official Redcliffe NAIDOC Week event was held on 6 July and was attended by more than 100 members of staff and community, including families. We had the privilege of hearing from Aunty Lindy at the event, who spoke eloquently about her life and her experiences with Redcliffe Hospital.

Staff were provided with an opportunity to send messages to ‘Our Elders’, where they thanked them for their ongoing involvement in the health system, for helping improve services, and for their active participation in events and initiatives.

Happy NAIDOC Week to you all and thank you to our Elders for their wisdom and leadership.

Kind regards,

Louise.
