We received some more encouraging results this week with the release of the AMA’s Resident Hospital Health Check. The AMA’s Resident Hospital Health Check surveys interns, junior, and senior house officers on their experiences of working at Queensland hospitals.
Redcliffe received an overall rating of B+, the highest rating of all the 20 hospitals graded. Our overall B+ rating was also an improvement on our B result in last year’s survey.
These results and recent feedback from ACHS assessors suggest that things are moving in the right direction at Redcliffe. At the same time, we know there’s more work to be done – especially around preventing occupational violence. On that subject, thank you to those Redcliffe Hospital staff who participated in the OVP forum at Eaton’s Hill yesterday. More than 100 staff members from across Metro North attended, helping to develop a new strategy to address and prevent occupational violence at all of our hospitals and facilities.Redcliffe shares in Research Excellence awards
Congratulations to the Redcliffe Hospital Urology Team for receiving a Highly Commended in the Discovery and Innovation category at this year’s Metro North Research Excellence Awards. The Urology team received their Highly Commended award for leading discovery and innovation to benefit patients with urologic cancers and conditions. The awards were MC’d by Elwyn Henaway, who is currently working as Metro North’s Health Equity Research Officer. The Common Good, RBWH Foundation, and HESTA sponsored the Metro North Research Excellence Awards.

Raise it for Redcliffe Wishlist Grants
This week we also launched Raise it for Redcliffe’s 2023 round of Wishlist Grants. Find out more about how to apply here. Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital is our philanthropic partnership with the RBWH Foundation, and its success has only been possible thanks to the support of hospital staff.
Wishlist Grants offer hospital teams access to grants of up to $10,000 to support eligible projects that provide sustained benefit to patients and/or staff. This is the fourth time these grants have been offered, and this year Raise it for Redcliffe has a funding pool of $20,000 to support these grants.Perioperative Nurses Week
Perioperative Nurses Week starts this Sunday, and the team will be celebrating with a morning tea next Tuesday.
Our Perioperative nursing team includes: theatre nurses, anaesthetic nurses, post-anaesthetic nurses, central sterilizing nurses, theatre booking nurses, operating theatre store nurses, and theatre assistants. All told, at Redcliffe Hospital, that’s around 190 people. We’re proud of them all and the care they provide our patients every day.Nursing and Midwifery Spotlight
Research at Redcliffe continues to grow in depth and reputation. This week’s second Nursing and Midwifery Spotlight showcased the range of research and quality improvement activities underway at Redcliffe, led and supported by nurses and midwives. The event was well-attended, both in the Education Centre and on Teams.
The Spotlight featured ten presentations from nurses and midwives, including Merryn Valcovich from Eat Walk Engage, Kylie Jacobs from the ICU, and Louise Hutt and Rachel Smyth from DAFU and Safety & Quality. We thank Dr Amanda Fox and Ella Tomkins for their work arranging the Spotlight, which we hope will become an annual event – much like the Research Symposium.National Radiographers and Radiation Therapists Week
This week is National Radiographers and Radiation Therapists Week – which is centered around World Radiography Day on Wednesday 8 November. World Radiography Day marks the anniversary of the discovery of X-rays in 1895.
Redcliffe Hospital’s Medical Imaging Department is made up of 62 radiographers who are skilled allied health professionals who take X-rays, and CT and MRI scans that are essential to the care of patients. The theme for this year’s National Radiographers and Radiation Therapists Week is “person centred care”, a theme that very much reflects the focus of our medical imaging team.Travel study
As part of the planning work for the Redcliffe Hospital Expansion, a Travel Study is being conducted to measure how staff, patients, and visitors travel to the hospital daily. Queensland Health has appointed TTM Consulting to undertake this research. Staff are asked to complete a simple two-minute anonymous questionnaire to assist with this research.
Lastly this week, a reminder that nominations are open for the Metro North Staff Excellence Awards. Find out more about the awards and how to nominate here.
We have so many units and colleagues who have been doing great work this year. Putting in nominations for awards like this is a great way to make sure our colleagues receive the recognition and attention they deserve.
