PPE

Please note the guide for PPE selection section of the Infection prevention and control guidelines for the management of COVID-19 in healthcare settings (Version 3.0 25 January 2022) has been updated to include the following:

An apron or a non-fluid resistant gown may be used in situations where physical contact is minimal and there is little change of body fluid splash (e.g. medication delivery, observations, fever clinics).

Refer to page 8 in particular of the guidelines: Infection prevention and control guidelines for the management of COVID-19 in healthcare settings.

Can we remind all staff working in clinical areas to wear P2/N95 mask and protective eyewear at all times. Staff are to wear a flat surgical mask when engaging in activities other than direct patient care.

Remember to try and have your breaks outside, socially distance at all times and ensure that you are wearing a mask when not eating or drinking.

PPE guidelines

Please refer to the following guidelines for PPE requirements:

COVID positive patients in STARS

Effective from today, any patients newly testing positive for COVID-19 in STARS will be transferred to RBWH. We will continue managing current patients in our 4B red zone as they are nearing the end of their isolation period. Our 4B red zone will be closed once vacated by current patients. These beds will then be re-opened to rehabilitation.

A big thank you to the teams who have managed our COVID positive patients in STARS to date. Your patient-centred approach, alignment with protocols and ‘can do’ attitude has been exemplary.

Finally, please ensure that you read the Metro North Incident Controller message daily for key updates to our Metro North COVID response.

Best wishes,

Helen Boocock and Kellie Stockton
