Please join me in welcoming Dr Chris Beck to STARS as Acting Director of Medical Services. Chris commenced at STARS on Monday and will be with us until October, by which time we hope to have finalised a permanent recruitment process.
Chris is an experienced medical administrator who has spent the past three and a half years as Deputy Director Medical Services at the RBWH. Prior to this, Chris worked at a range of public and private hospitals including The Wesley, St Andrews, Queensland Children’s Hospital and Ipswich Hospital. His professional interests include medical officer health and wellbeing, medical education, clinical incident management, and open disclosure processes. Outside of work, he is kept busy driving children to netball and cleaning up after them and their many pets.

Amazon Connect go live
STARS went live on Monday (20 June), with Amazon Connect – a cloud-based contact centre. The cloud-based solution has four (4) newly created service area specific 1300 numbers for each of the following:
- Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Department – 1300 771 472
- Surgical Procedural Centre – 1300 771 673
- Ambulatory Care Outpatients – 1300 771 675
- Geriatric and Rehabilitation Outpatient Services and Day Hospital – 1300 771 736
Amazon Connect will be used for inbound patient calls and will offer a call-back service. The patient experience has been streamlined to connect the caller to the appropriate service area and to reduce wait times.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the Amazon Connect project. This is an important initiative that will improve our patient experience and outcomes.
STARS Winter Warmer
To say thank you for your hard work and dedication, the STARS Staff Council is hosting the STARS Winter Warmer. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to catch up with your colleagues and also meet the staff council members.
The Winter Warmer is being held on Wednesday 29 June from 6.30 am to 9 am in the Level 3 Staff Room.
