Firstly, we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians and the country we all live and work in and pay respects to the Elders past and present. We recognise their connection, strength and wisdom.
We join you today in celebration of our annual NAIDOC Week, 2 – 9 July 2023, as communities all over Australia come together to recognise and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history and achievements.
This year’s NAIDOC theme is ‘For Our Elders’.
We also pay respect to Bobbi Lockyer, a proud Ngarluma, Kariyarra, Nyulnyul and Yawuru artist, born and based on Kariyarra Country in Port Hedland, who is the winner of the prestigious National NAIDOC Week Poster Competition for 2023 with her entry, For Our Elders.
Please watch the video about Bobbi Lockyer and the story behind the incredible poster.
We encourage you all to familiarise yourselves with the NAIDOC week website as this has great educational information about the background leading up this significant cultural week; including a historical timeline, awards, posters, local events, resources and news. Have a happy NAIDOC week and look after yourselves and others.
Kind Regards,
Karlene and Jarrod.
