Jane Hancock, Chief Operating Officer

Dear STARS Staff,

We have come to the end of the first week of staff engagement sessions at STARS as part of the impact analysis of the potential temporary relocation of Queensland Spinal Cord Injury Service (QSCIS). I would like to thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to attend the sessions last week.

There are further sessions being held this week as well:

If you are unable to attend a session you can also participate (anonymously if you prefer) via the staff survey.

The feedback provided to date has been extremely helpful and will ensure the impact analysis report identifies the complexities involved in a potential relocation. Much of the feedback has centred around concerns about providing the best possible care to patients and so I thank you for always having the interests of patients in mind.

There were also some questions around the impact analysis process and how some staff felt it was difficult to provide feedback when there are still many unknowns. I recognise we don’t have all the answers yet which is why at this stage the focus is on finding out the opportunities, issues and service challenges in temporarily relocating QSCIS to STARS. Please be reassured that if a decision is made to move to the next step of implementation planning there will be further opportunities for extensive consultation with staff and patients.

Last week we also held a vidcast about the potential relocation of QSCIS, with 50 attendees tuning in. Hopefully the vidcast provided some more background to why the review and impact analysis are taking place and gave staff the opportunity to ask questions. If you still have questions or we didn’t get to your question during the vidcast, you can email the project team Leah Vegh and Maddison Muir on MNHSpinalImpactAnalysis@health.qld.gov.au or call 0419 316 245.

We will hold another vidcast towards the end of July so look out for more details in the STARS staff bulletin.

I recognise the current impact analysis is creating a level of uncertainty amongst staff. Metro North are committed to supporting STARS staff during this process. If you need support please reach out to STARS Staff Psychologist Allison Welch (3647 6942 or Allison.welch@health.qld.gov.au), your line manager, or the Peer Responder Program at STARS. Staff also have access to the Employee Assistance Program, Benestar (1300 360 364).

Warm regards,

Jane.
