STARS has been opened for just over a year. In that short period of time STARS Allied Health has achieved so much. I have provided a snapshot below of just a few of our achievements (there are many, many more).
STARS Allied Health works across all areas of the facility – rehabilitation and procedural, inpatients and outpatients. The work that we do is diverse and encompasses physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, dietetics and food services, audiology, orthoptics, psychology and rehabilitation engineering. The Director of Allied Health also has professional responsibility for anaesthetic technicians and pharmacists within STARS.
I have provided a snapshot below of just a few of our achievements (there are many, many more):
- We have hosted courses that have been well attended by clinicians Australia wide, inclusive of The Advanced Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES) Workshop and The Orthoptics Technical Upskilling Workshop.
- The teams have passed required audits with flying colours such as the NDIS Safety and Quality Commission Audit and Food Safety Audit.
- Our shining STARS have been awarded numerous awards – sweeping the pool at the Institute of Hospitality in Healthcare Awards, being part of Metro North Staff Excellence award for Early Recovery After Surgery (ERAS).
- Significant service improvement initiatives – brain injury, goal setting, stroke family education, day hospital review, innovative orthoptics model of care.
- Multiple staff have completed further education in leadership and research.
But what I am most proud of is the culture in allied health – it is such a great place to work. We celebrate each other’s successes, share the burden during the difficult times, acknowledge and respect individual disciplines in so many ways and work together to achieve goals. STARS Allied Health is second to none.
I can’t wait to see the great work we will collectively achieve in 2022.
Kellie Stockton
Director of Allied Health
