Tami Photinos, Executive Director, The Prince Charles Hospital

Welcome to TPCH Charlies Week, when we celebrate the great work of our team at TPCH. This week is an opportunity to take some time in our busy schedules, something we rarely do, to acknowledge the many people and talents that make TPCH so special. It’s also a chance to have a bit of well-earned fun!

I think we all agree that health care is one of the most challenging environments to work in, which has been particularly evident over the last few years with COVID. We are responsible for what people like you and me value most – their health. We support patients during what is often the most vulnerable points in their lives, but equally, we enable them to achieve good health so they can enjoy the best life has to offer with their loved ones.

Thousands of people today owe their good health to TPCH and we should all feel proud that we play a part in making this happen.

This is why TPCH Week is important. It is the chance to recognise the valuable work of our staff, and for the hospital to say thank you for all that you do.

This is my second TPCH Week, and I am looking forward to getting involved in the celebrations. I am particularly looking forward to the Charlies Fitness Challenge on Giving Day this Wednesday 30 November. (I have been practising my squats for the Jelly Legs challenge so watch out physios!)

I encourage staff to get involved in the Week where they can, whether it’s popping down to the free staff BBQ today, or trying some of the delicious cakes at the Master Cake Competition tomorrow. There’s plenty of activities on offer, so please join in the celebrations where you can. There’s still time to register for some activities.

Some of our larger events are:

  • Staff Wellness Day – Today, 11am – 2pm, staff dining area (including staff BBQ from 11am until food runs out)
  • Research Q&A – Tuesday 29 November, 10.30am – 11.30am. Education Centre car park
  • TPCH Giving Day – Wednesday 30 November, 9am – 9pm. (Includes Charlies Fitness Challenge, Christmas markets, and food trucks). Common Good Café. Find out more.
  • TPCH Staff Excellence Awards – Friday 2 December, 1-2pm. Education Centre car park.
