Louise Oriti, Executive Director, Redcliffe Hospital

Our emergency department is one of the busiest in Queensland, currently providing our community with a combined adult and paediatric service. In the next couple of weeks, work will start on an upgrade to our emergency department to provide a dedicated and separate paediatric section.

When completed later this year, there will be a separate paediatric reception and triage area, a family-friendly waiting room, separate paediatric treatment spaces, and short-stay beds. The works will also link in and connect with the medical imaging upgrade completed last year.

Our infrastructure team have been working closely with our clinical leaders and our emergency department for some time now, planning how this upgrade can be done in ways that limit impacts to patients and clinical care.

We expect the upgrade to be completed by the end of this year. Our Emergency Department will remain open throughout these works, with no change to the standard of care we provide to patients.

There will be some changes though, and the most noticeable of these will include:

  • The front door of the Emergency Department will temporarily move to the western side of the building
  • The Emergency Department vehicle turnaround will be closed, and a temporary replacement built on part of the West Block car park
  • Some car spaces within the West Block car park will be unavailable
  • Contractors and builders will occupy the fenced area beside pathology.

Many of you will have seen the presentation Josh from Metro North Infrastructure gave to our staff forum. We’ll invite him back to keep us informed of how things are progressing in a few weeks. For now though, if you have any questions about the upgrade, please email joshua.foyle@health.qld.gov.au
