Message from the Chief People and Culture Officer

2023-05-03T10:37:54+10:0027 April 2023|Managers Memo|

Welcome to Metro North’s second edition of the bi-monthly Managers Memo, aimed at supporting you on your leadership journey with us. We received your feedback about February’s inaugural edition, and we’ll continue to offer what you like and, bring more detail around some additional topics you suggested.

In this edition, you will hear important information that we hope enables you to continue to lead well and feel confident in your role as a line manager. As you will already be aware, the Have Your Say survey goes live next month (19 May). With this in mind, we wanted to focus the April edition on supporting you to create a culture of wellbeing, engagement and belonging at work.

The importance of fostering employee wellbeing, engagement and belonging is at an all-time high. Our people want to be cared about as human beings, not just as a resource. With wellbeing a priority across government, building strong, authentic relationships with your teams and co-workers that enable highly relational-forming connections, allows us to pivot from merely managing employees to being coaches and performance enablers – this is key.

Research has consistently shown that when employees feel they belong to a team and/or an organisation, they not only tend to perform better, but also experience higher levels of engagement and wellbeing. In contrast, a lack of belonging will increase the risk of isolation, burnout, and underperformance.

The People and Culture team plays an important role in supporting your development as managers and leaders. We have a range of resources and support available at your fingertips. We understand that finding the time to engage in training can be difficult, so we’re really focussing on short and just in time resources and sessions we hope will suit your busy schedules.

Keep reading for more on what’s new across the sector that is relevant to you in your role as a Metro North line manager, as well as programs, resources and development opportunities available to support you in your role.

We hope you enjoy the April edition of the Managers Memo.

Regards,
Kristal Lowe
Chief People and Culture Officer
