Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) recognises the impact of emotions and how they can influence thoughts and behaviours. The therapy aims to teach people how to manage their emotions and express them in helpful ways.

Art can be an expressive way of managing emotions. Clinicians from Metro North Mental Health, Jen Smith (Assessment & Brief Intervention Clinic (ABIC) clinician), and Peta Mitchell (Artist in Residence, Resource Team), incorporated a creative art group program with a DBT group held at the Strathpine Neami National Living and Learning Centre.

Kathryn took her idea further and linked the sessions she had been having with her DBT support, combining, and reflecting her progress into a 21-page book that she has had published through a commercial print service.
