Metro North recently became the proud owner of Queensland Health’s first battery electric vehicle.
Fondly known as ‘Bev’, it is the first of eight electric vehicles (EV) that Metro North will roll-out across our car fleet in 2021 and is one of the Green Initiatives from the Green Metro North Sustainability Strategy 2021-2026.
The strategy is our commitment to take action towards environmental sustainability and deliver high quality health services for our community and future generations. It focuses on five strategic elements:
- Green Facilities: Build and maintain all facilities, plant and infrastructure to enhance environmental sustainability and resilience.
- Green Monitoring: Measure, monitor and report on key sustainability metrics to track progress and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Green Initiatives: Action for sustainable change, including enhancing energy efficiency and minimising waste output.
- Green Partnerships: Collaborate with other organisations to improve sustainability performance and innovation within the healthcare sector.
- Green Workforce: Prioritise staff engagement to champion environmental sustainability across all organisational locations.
Members of the Green Metro North team visited recently for Executive Director Angie Dobbrick to test drive Bev around the Caboolture Hospital campus.
Driving Bev reduces air pollution output, compared to the emissions generated by petrol cars.
Green Metro North is working towards a more environmentally sustainable vehicle fleet with a target of 16 EV vehicles by December 2022.
Queensland Government fleet manager QFleet is also working to with government agencies to transition their fleets to EVs through its Electric Vehicle Transition Strategy.
The Caboolture, Kilcoy and Woodford Green Team is also driving several local green initiatives to increase recycling and protect the environment. For more details and to join the team, contact Rachel Bailey.
