Every Brain Injury is Different

From August 16 – 22, 2021, we will be celebrating Brain Injury Awareness Week.

The theme for the week, ‘Every brain injury is different’, recognises the uniqueness of each injury and tells the stories of people and families impacted by brain injury across Australia.

COH Staff Excellence Awards 2021 shareableThe 2021 Community and Oral Health Staff Excellence Award are now open.

The excellence awards will be open to all staff and teams from oral health and community services.

This year, based on your preference, you can either submit a short 250 – 350 word synopsis or a short one to two-minute video. It’s your choice!

And, don’t forget that we have a new, very special award – The Shining Star Award (which has its own shorter peer nominated process).

This new award is about showcasing the quiet achiever, the staff member or team that doesn’t usually get recognised but are doing a stellar job, achieving great things to support the care we provide.

Nominations close 5.00 pm Friday 27 August 2021.

Our green thumbs go electricalOur green thumbs go electrical

Our Community and Oral Health gardeners are doing it green for the environment by transitioning to new battery powered gardening tools such as chainsaws, mowers, whipper snippers and hedge cutters.

The move to electrical alternatives by our green thumbs is part of the Green Metro North – Sustainability Strategy 2021-26.

Heal Country, heal our nation

Community and Oral Health marked NAIDOC Week 2021 with a celebration of arts, crafts, dance and a gathering of elders, community members, friends and staff at the end of July.

Every year, NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.

The theme for 2021 is ‘Heal Country, heal our nation.’ For generations Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been calling for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of our culture and heritage for all Australians.

Frank, 100 year old patientA special moment at STARS

Not only did our wonderful vaccination crew reach the significant 50,000th vaccination recently, we also had the pleasure of vaccinating 100 year old patient Frank.

Frank received his first Pfizer vaccination after his daughter brought him in and clearly he was a very delightful and sprightly gentlemen.

After the nurses put his collared shirt, jumper and coat back on him following his vaccination, he pulled out his comb from his pocket and tidied his locks for this photo!

Way To Go - Patient and visitor AppThe Way To Go app is nearly here

The Metro North Health Way to Go App provides a central point of useful information to help prepare patients and visitors for their visit to Metro North.

The initiative, which began as a joint project between Metro North and QUT IT students in 2018, was revisited and reinvigorated by Metro North Outpatient Strategies, Healthcare Excellence and Innovation (HEI) in late 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic.

After a successful trial at TPCH, COH are the next cab off the rank with a planned GO LIVE date of Friday, 27 August 2021.

The Way to Go app utilises QR code technology and as part of the initial rollout we are adding the QR code to all of our appointment letters / client correspondence.

If you would like to look at the information online please visit https://metronorth.health.qld.gov.au/waytogo/
