Bethany Arbuckle our Nurse of the Year for 2022.

Nursing Awards

It is very important that we spend some time acknowledging our nurses for their inspirational work caring for our most vulnerable during the COVID-19 response.

International Nurses Day 2022 saw some great, award-winning nurses recognised and as an added bonus we reveal why they received awards!

Assistant in Nursing of the Year

Tammy Vardy, Assistant in Nursing, Gannet House

“Tammy goes above and beyond what is expected of her. She works so well with the team and is so supportive to everyone including management.

“She identifies improvements for the facility, advocates for a safer environment for the residents and staff.

“Tammy engages with the residents in such an amazing way, an example is her helping one of the residents do his gardening and maintaining safety and making the place look beautiful as they do it.”

Enrolled Nurse of the Year

Crystle White, Enrolled Nurse, Gannet House

“Crystle engages in discussions on improving service quality and is not afraid to offer suggestions. She is trustworthy and reliable in delivering quality patient care and escalating concerns to clinical leads.”

Registered Nurse of the Year

Eleanor Thompson, Registered Nurse, Complex Chronic Disease Team

“Elly has been instrumental with many research projects and most recently in an Australian Catholic University collaborative partnership for pulmonary research.

“She constantly updates her clinical knowledge and is always innovative, ensuring that clients are receiving the best possible evidenced-based care. Elly was a major contributor to the development of the pulmonary resource hub that is now used state-wide.

“Elly is a strong advocate for clients accessing high-quality pulmonary rehabilitation and she is a trusted ‘go to’ for both clients and staff in this field.

“She was key in implementing the home-based model of care, tele-rehabilitation and flexible option for clients to have greater access to pulmonary rehabilitation.”

Nurse Leader of the Year

Shannaen Gilbert, Interim Care

“Shannaen demonstrates a strong commitment to the standards of nursing care and professionalism for the entire nursing team in Interim Care.

“Shannaen encourages high performance by creating an environment for positive conversations and encouraging reflection to support staff to identify opportunities for professional growth, working with them to establish goals and recognise their strengths and weaknesses.

“She is a visible presence on the floor supporting staff and being a shining example of the art of nursing, particularly when observing her interactions with patients, showing how to integrate clinical assessment into social conversation.

“Over the last two years Shannaen has shown considerable adaptability and resilience when adjusting the services delivered within Interim Care.

“She has managed to do this with calm and strong leadership which has enabled the staff to work with the change in a positive manner.”

Graduate Nurse of the Year

Charlotte Wootton, Gannet House

“Charlotte actively seeks out and engages in professional development opportunities. Evidenced by a high quality of clinical documentation and communication, Charlotte is an important part of the team committed to improve consumer outcomes.”

2022 Community and Oral Health Nurse of the Year

Bethany Arbuckle – Education

“Bethany continues to look for ways to improve the educational opportunities and methods to reach staff.  Bethany has a can-do attitude and is happy to engage with clinicians in a structured teaching and community environment, or on the ward.

“Bethany supportively challenges nurses to evaluate their practice and ways that this can be enhanced to improve access for clients and their care experience.

“During COVID-19 and limited face-to-face education, Bethany has been forward thinking in ways that she can achieve education for all that is meaningful and interactive.

“She has introduced simulation to the Residential Transition Care Program and online learning. All team members appreciate the support provided along with Bethany’s ability to think outside the box and deliver education in a new and engaging manner.”
