One of our values in action winners is Fiona Wilson from the Halwyn Centre.

Fiona Wilson deserves recognition for her ongoing and consistent efforts as an individual who, while not a direct caregiver, significantly contributes to enhancing the quality of life for the residents and the service provided to families, her fellow staff and all other stakeholders of Halwyn.  

Halwyn Centre Nursing Director Trisha Turner said Fiona consistently demonstrated outstanding customer service in an effort to improve the health and work environment for those she serves.  

 “Fiona conducts her practice in a quiet, no fuss manner and always goes above and beyond in her efforts to provide the best quality outcomes for all,” she said. 

  “Her quiet diligence to providing the best possible service provision contributes to a positive, healthy work environment where staff members are valued and appreciated.  

“Fiona’s actions and work performance stands out as an exceptional reflection of Metro North’s values of Compassion, Respect, Teamwork, Integrity and High Performance.”  

Compassion: Fiona is gentle, kind and supportive to whomever she communicates and deals with. Fiona demonstrates empathy to families by being able to put herself in their position and goes to great efforts to ensure service to families is of the highest quality.  

Respect: Fiona consistently treats everyone with respect, dignity, and professionalism. Fiona actively listens to what everyone has to say; practices with transparency; recognises the strengths and accomplishments of others; value the time and workloads of others and consistently, regardless of her own workload pressures, practice’s common courtesy and politeness.  

Teamwork: Fiona nurtures an environment of openness, tolerance, and inclusion and is a wonderful role model for all staff. Fiona has developed efficient systems in her role which ensures the service is able to work more effectively in meeting our accreditation requirements.  

Integrity: Fiona serves residents, consumers, and staff with soundness of character, purpose, and through an unwavering commitment to being of service. Fiona acts to recognise the performance of staff which is exemplary and upholds the moral standards of the organisation which has assisted in building consumer confidence in the service.  

High Performance: Fiona is proactive, eager to take on new challenges and actively and continuously strives to improve and grow her skills. Fiona volunteers to do tasks above and beyond her role to ensure the service provided is uninterrupted and prioritises important tasks which includes tasks which may seem little but is considered important to the person she is dealing with.  

Trish said Fiona was Halwyn’s ‘glue’ and our ‘jewel’! We are so very grateful for her every day and the contribution she makes to ensuring we provide those we serve with the highest quality and kindest service.
