Our first ever Shining Star – Brenda Johnson – Winner

Brenda Johnson was our first ever Shining Star recipient who was a dedicated and well-loved dental assistant who worked at Stafford Dental Clinic since 2015.

Her colleagues remember Brenda as a caring, conscientious hard worker, she always put the patient first with a huge smile on her face.

Brenda truly deserved the Shining Star Award as she will be missed, remembered but never forgotten. Our thoughts go out to Brenda’s family and colleagues.

Melissa Dundon, Assistant in Nursing, Cooinda House – Specialised Aged Care

Mel Dundon is deserving winner of the Shining Star Award as she brings balance, calm, and fun to all residents that she interacts with and is dedicated to those in her care.

Her nomination outlines how Mel goes beyond the call of duty and has been a key player in changing the team culture at Cooinda.

“Mel works extremely well in the team and is adored by the residents and families. She is person focused, not task focused. She aligns perfectly to the Metro North values and her work ethics are at an extremely high standard.”

Community partners join the vaccination push

It’s been a big couple of months with our staff being joined by our partners from Queensland Ambulance Service, Community Recovery, the Care Army and SES volunteers to deliver a range of vaccination clinics at state high schools, Bunnings, North Lakes Health Precinct and Pinkenba.

Our Unsung Heroes – The Care Army raise a helping hand Our Unsung Heroes – The Care Army raise a helping hand

We have been very fortunate to have Care Army arrangements in place at our vaccination clinics since late August. To date, we had more than 100 Care Army volunteers across our major vaccination sites including Boondall, Doomben and Kippa-Ring – seven days a week.

This is a tremendous and inspiring undertaking by these volunteers. They play an important part of the vaccination effort and out team.

New GP pathway for hospital avoidance and post-acute care

Great news! We welcomed Caroline Bates to the PACS service as a Clinical Nurse and also received funding from the Care4Qld 2021 – 2024 Strategy for the Multi-disciplinary Avoidance and Post-Acute Service (MAPS).

We are one of four HHSs to receive this funding in South East Queensland. This funding is to enhance the existing PACS services we deliver in Metro North by providing a pathway for referral by GPs and QAS and assessment of these people face to face within 24 hours.

Work has progressed well with the first patient admitted via this new GP referral pathway– great work to everyone involved.

100 Percent vaccinations for aged care100 Percent vaccinations for aged care

Vaccination has been strongly encouraged for all aged care workers ahead of the introduction of mandatory vaccination in mid September.

At Cooinda House, the workforce has stepped up and rolled up their sleeves to ensure that we protect our most vulnerable people within our care.

The Cooinda House team has achieved 100 per cent vaccination compliance well ahead of the target date.

Update from Residential Transition Care Zillmere

Some great things are happening at Residential Transition Care Program (RTCP) Zillmere with the establishment of a full-time pharmacist, coupled with a very high occupancy rate.

The commencement of nurse practitioners after hours has also proven to be an invaluable service to RTCP staff and patients by reducing transfer of patients to emergency departments within Metro North.

At the same time, COVID-19 has enabled RTCP to increase utilisation of telehealth for outpatient appointments and a reduction in transport charges.

Compliment of the month – Hospital in the Home

My husband has been receiving Hospital in the Home support for the past nine days. We are so grateful for the kindness, professionalism, communication and care offered to us. The nurses who visited us daily were superb.

They arrived at designated times, were patient, reassuring and caring and took time to explain, answer questions and conduct medical procedures.

We appreciated being able to do this from our home, especially with the current hospital lockdown which restricted visitors to see inpatients. A huge thank you to your staff for outstanding care.
