A simple phrase that paints a picture of this amazing, compassionate, selfless, and caring team and the work they do.
Our Special Needs Dentistry specialists, who work across the service including Caboolture, Redcliffe and the Oral Health Centre, are changing lives – and delivering care where it matters.
They are making a difference to people and families who at times struggle to find the best possible oral care.
And, in their own words – “That is what we are here for!”
The Burrell family shared their journey and the amazing treatment they received for their son who has a disability.
This is what they said about the Specialist Needs Dentistry team who have teamed up the with the Caboolture Hospital crew.
“After a hard and exhausting time trying to navigate the Queensland Health System on our return to Gladstone from Western Australia.
I must sincerely thank all clinicians and staff at the Special Needs Dentistry [part of Metro North Oral Health Services] and Caboolture Hospital.
Our son is severely intellectually and physically disabled, and to top that he now has to deal with Ameloblastomic – tumours of the mouth.
These tumours are on the rise in the young in Queensland and special needs and mental health patients really struggle with dental hygiene and getting services.
If left unattended as we have found through lack of services the consequences can be dire.
We were so lucky to be introduced to Dr David Fu, Dr Claudia Lopez Silva and Dr Janice Chaung at Metro North’s Special Needs Dentistry Service.
We felt so included and everything was explained in detail at our level.
The anaesthetist team were absolutely so professional, amazing and nothing was too much trouble.
At other hospitals we have attended we have been hard work – everything was a drama. At Caboolture everyone went above and beyond. Communication and care are at the forefront of this great service.
We were nervous about trying another hospital but the care, inclusion and medical treatment at Caboolture is second to none.
In my son’s life he has had many operations, we’ve visited many hospitals in Western Australia and Queensland – and Caboolture was the best.
We have previously been private patients until my son’s latest diagnosis which can only be treated at a major hospital.
The dental, anaesthetist team, Bri our nurse were simply so communicative, compassionate and inclusive making it the most positive experience for us.
The nurses in recovery communicated to me nothing was too much trouble and they would love to have us back.
Simply amazing, inclusiveness and communication was paramount always in their minds.
The staff are so proactive, positive, welcoming and above all else INCLUSIVE.
We struggle every day as a family and inclusiveness and feeling welcomed and cared for is hard to find. Thank you.”
