The Redcliffe Hospital Auxiliary celebrated its 50th anniversary in October.
Speaking at the Auxiliary’s annual general meeting, Executive Director Louise Oriti said the success of the Auxiliary over the past half-century was down to the way it connected volunteers and the community with the hospital.
“The Auxiliary’s main purpose has always been to support hospital patients. For more than 50 years they’ve been achieving that aim admirably.
“The Auxiliary was established in 1971. In their 50 years of operation, they’ve raised and donated more than $840,000 to support projects that make patients’ time at the hospital easier and more comfortable,” Louise said.
“One of the Auxiliary’s lasting contributions to the hospital has been the chapel, which was completed in 1986 at a value of around $60,000.”
Louise paid tribute to the continuing chair of the Auxiliary, Liz Hancock, and her committee for leading the organisation throughout such a difficult time.
“COVID-19 has made things very difficult for our volunteers and Auxiliary members. They’ve only been able to be on the hospital campus for part of the year because of visitor and other restrictions,” Louise said.
“It’s wonderful though to see the Auxiliary Gift Shop at the front of the hospital open again for business – and we hope that we’ve seen the end to restrictions that mean we must send out Auxiliary and volunteer community home.”
